Anne had no dear author who would make it right and throw an informant in Frederick's way... That is the way such things are generally resolved.

I wonder if we can trust Austen to do what an author should. She seems to be taking a hands off approach in this novel compared with the others.

There is more the sense that things are happening as they might in real life.
