we sometimes forget there was a time in history where this was not the case. Recently, I read an article in the newspaper that addressed the issue of Baby Boomer parents continuing to interact with their college age and older children to an extent that has not been seen in the past. One example was of a mother who bitterly complained about the low quality of bathrooms that her daughter encountered on a college-sponsored trip to China! For some reason this woman felt the college should have "done something" so her little 20 year old "baby" wouldn't have to deal with a less than state of the art loo. Do you suppose the mother's name was Mary? I think that your points were well taken that there are many different circumstances that contribute to the interaction of parents and children...all in all I would rather be a Musgrove than a member of some other Austen familes!
