I agree with Tracy W that we can assume the Musgroves have a nursemaid. This would throw into a slightly different light his parents' willingness to leave their boy, and the fact that maybe, just maybe, Anne was (unconsciously, perhaps) using her auntly duties to social (or antisocial) purposes.
