What is her assessment of his parenting skills? All that I gathered from the reading is that she is inclined to agree with him that he might be able to manage the boys if Mary didn't interfere. And that "his theory was much better than his wife's, and his practice not so bad". Still, that is not a lot to go on. It sounds as though the nursery maid does what little parenting ever happens in the Cottage.
I never said he was a hopeless human being. In fact, the criticisms I made against him (re sports, books, etc.) were from Anne's own thoughts.
