...I made note of as I read:

Regarding the chaos of the Musgrove Family Musical: "The portraits themselves seemed to be staring in astonishment." (ch 5)

"Mary was not so repulsive and unsisterly as Elizabeth" (ch 6) I know that the use of "repulsive" is in its "trying to repel or drive off" definition, rather than our more modern "disgusting" or "repugnant" definition, but it still gave me a giggle.
