Number of guns, I think Written by Louise H (9/26/2005 5:22 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Gladly straining my eyes, penned by Ann2

My knowledge of the Royal Navy stems almost entirely from Patrick O'Brian books, so I could be wrong, but I think the reference to 74 or 36 is the number of guns (cannons) the ship carried. That seems to be the most significant piece of information about them!
