Thames of fire and other lol paragraphs   Written by Kalyn (9/26/2005 4:46 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, LOL comments, penned by MaryAnn K.
Are you new?

I love both of the lol descriptions you quoted! Two of my favorites, along with the Mary's changes of behavior--how she perks up after Ann's arrival, and when she realizes she doesn't have to stay home and nurse poor Charles. As if her illness could be due to being uncomfortable in a carriage with the Musgrove family...though I must agree she is not the properest person to nurse her eldest son, though not because she has a mother's feelings!

As far as the Thames on fire, I agree with Ann2, I interpreted it to mean "set the world on fire"--and the whole passage to mean that Sir W will never do anything great or esteemed, but he won't cause any harm, either.
