Mary's "claim" on Anne's time   Written by Linda (Ann) (9/26/2005 4:28 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Anne and Mary, penned by Margaret H
Are you new?

This always sets me off: - Chapter 5

"Mary, often a little unwell, and always thinking a great deal of her own complaints, and always in the habit of claiming Anne when any thing was the matter, was indisposed; and foreseeing that she should not have a day's health all the autumn, entreated, or rather required her, for it was hardly entreaty, to come to Uppercross Cottage, and bear her company as long as she should want her, instead of going to Bath."

I love the idea Mary can claim Anne "as long as she should want her" - it is so wonderfully self-centered! And that she "required her [Anne]..."

Mary is quite the princess, to have people come at her beck and call and boot them out when done with them....
