I do wonder about one point. Sir Walter may be oblivous to Elizabeth's worries, but would could he do if he was brighter and noticed them? His attitude that Elizabeth is as lovely looking as ever and is bound to marry honourably one day seems about as comforting as most - about the only one that would be more comforting would be a Mr Woodhouse lifestyle that would provide Elizabeth with ample excuses as to why she couldn't marry. His actual attitude does seem better than dripping with sympathy.
