This is a first for me ----- a sympathetic view   Written by Vicki I. (9/21/2005 10:18 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Any Elizabeth Supporters?, penned by Aramathea
Are you new?

of Elizabeth Elliot! I must say I admire you. I think Elizabeth is the female oounterpart of her father. The only thing that keeps her from being a carbon copy of her father is that she was born a woman, not a man.

I have lost count of the times I have read Persuasion. It keeps neck and neck with P&P as my favorite. This post has made me reconsider and look back at her circumstances. After reading your post, there is a point I had not thought of before: I wonder if, behind the wall of arrogance, there was a feeling of inadequecy because, although she was first born she was not the son (and heir) Sir Walter would undoubtable have wanted. She may have felt she let her father down by not being a son. Mind you, I am still far from an Elizabeth supporter, but you've made me think along different lines and that's quite and accomplisment! Good post! VickiI.
