I have always felt that Capt. W shared in the blame. I guess there's enough to spread amongst the three of them when all is said and done though perhaps in varying degrees. It's too bad that Anne and Capt. W couldn't have come to a private agreement to get engaged down the line after he had earned enough to support a family. There would, of course, have been no guarantee but it was the best possible solution for the moment I think.
