Oh, a professional actually writing about persuasion   Written by Tracy W (9/20/2005 7:02 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, 'Persuasion', penned by Emmeline
Are you new?

What a treasure you have! I read JA criticism whenever I come across it, and it has puzzled me that I had never come across someone who discusses the theme of persuasion in this book.

That was one of my reasons for picking this focus, as well as the thought that whatever it lacked in originality, at least I would be unlikely to forget it.

Johnson's definition of persuasion does fit with how Lady Russell appears to have worked more on Anne's feelings than her reasons in persuading her to give up the engagement. I wonder if there will be any examples of 'argument' working in the novel or if everything will be persuasion.
