Lady Catherine's comment from P&P makes me wonder about the sisters in Persuasion-- Mary is not only 'out,' she is married before her eldest sister.

The issue is raised in P&P (albeit by snobby and presumably old-fashioned Lady Cath.), but it's not even worth a mention in Persuasion. Has there been a shift in societal norms over Austen's lifetime?
