...unless he wanted to make connections between Sir Walter, Mr William Walter Elliot, and the second Sir Walter - tracking the illustrous name. Doesn't seem outside the realm of possibility for him, and what a comfort to know that his heir would have the same name as he. ;-)

But I agree that your explanation seems much more plausible. I just hate to find Dr. Chapman wrong in anything - I've relied upon him to be right for so long. ;-)
