Presumably you have other things in your life you can derive satisfaction from. Accomplishments, education, relationships, friends, jobs, hobbies. If you were never in Debrett's you would still have things to take pride in. Poor Sir Walter's greatest feat was being born with the right name.

Maybe he keeps checking to make sure his name is still there - take away his title and he only has his good looks to fall back on!
