As dim as Sir Walter is, he seems to have truly appreciated his wife and felt as much love for her as he was capable of feeling for anyone besides himself. And you're right, there was much more than duty in everything she did for him. It's still tragic. She thought she'd found her Darcy and ended up with a Rushworth.
