I wonder whether Sir Walter   Written by Rebecca Mog (9/20/2005 6:49 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, My focus, sort of..., penned by Sarah Hannah

has such a low opinion of the curate - as a 'nobody' - partly because Mr Wentworth is concerned with the care of souls, and one's spiritual wellbeing. As we all know, Sir Walter is vain and narrow-minded and, on such evidence as we have so far, not overly worried about deeper matters, including consideration of any moral obligations he may have as a baronet, and landowner. While this is just a supposition, Sir Walter may also not care for clergy in general because he may object to being preached at, and his failings pointed out to him. ;-)

Mr Wentworth's lack of connections are, I think of the social and/or financial sort. He doesn't know the right sort of people (or been born into the right branch of a family), or have interests in the right kinds of affairs - such as property, which can be bought, sold, and mortgaged.
