...the closest thing I could find from The Brainy Dictionary which usually includes a lot of literary references. It does not apply directly to Regency England. However, it seems to fit the context of the novel.

"To be in a state of healthful, growing youth and vigor; to show beauty and freshness, as of flowers; to give promise, as by or with flowers."
