I hope it is permissible to say that this exchange puts me in mind of "Emma". She remarks that her position and fortune make her indifferent to marriage, and it is only her discovery that she loves Mr.Knightley that changes her mind. Why saddle yourself with an aging, as well as silly, Sir Walter, if you don't have to?
