I don't think this is snobbery, though Written by Line (9/19/2005 8:24 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Lady Russell and Elizabeth, penned by Margaret 7

It sounds to me as though Lady Russell wants to love Elizabeth because Elizabeth is the daughter of her dearest friend, and it would be too painful to admit to herself that her friend's daughter is nothing like her mother and doesn't really deserve her affection.
