Kate L suggested that Lady Russell might have influenced Lady Elliot in *her* post. Interesting to speculate, isn't it? You may be right that residual guilt feelings influenced Lady Russell's attitude towards Captain Wentworth!

About Lady Russell's move to Kellynch - I was under the impression that moving there was mostly her own idea (not that Lady Elliot wasn't delighted to see her), but you could certainly read it both ways...

[Lady Elliot] had, however, one very intimate friend -- a sensible, deserving woman -- who had been brought, by strong attachment to herself, to settle close by her, in the village of Kellynch.
