Anne was the name of a ruling queen   Written by Tracy W (9/19/2005 6:40 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, All the 'Marys and Elizabeths', penned by Barbara
Are you new?

I think Anne as a name was quite illustrious too. All the names listed are names of Queens who inherited the throne. Queen Mary I (Bloody Mary), Queen Elizabeth I (the Virgin Queen), Queen Mary II (of Mary and William, though of course it was not so much an inheritance as a revolution and an invasion) and Queen Anne (Queen Mary II's sister).

Maybe Sir Walter was just steadily snobby.
