Perhaps Anne Elliot was named for her godmother Written by Frances Anne (9/19/2005 4:47 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Anne barely mentioned, penned by Margaret H

I don't think we are ever told Lady Russell's first name. I can imagine Lady Elliot wishing to name her daughter after her dearest friend and Sir Walter not caring much either way. Now if Lady Russell had been a beauty that might have raised Sir Walter's opinion of the name.
