I was also struck by the statement the Lady E was "not the happiest being in the world herself..." This IMO should have made Lady R aware of the unhappiness that could come from a marriage made only for rank. If this were the case, she has again fallen a bit in my estimation. If she saw Lady E marry for rank because HE was infatuated and had rank, Lady R should have known better!
