I think she told herself that it was really for his own good as a way to comfort herself and to rationalize it to herself. It's much more comforting to think that you have made a sacrifice for the one you love, than to think that you made the wrong decision.

Of course, it can be argued that she was correct, that it really was to Wentworth's benefit that she did so - but not until next week! ;-)
