Anne's appearance   Written by Cheryl (9/19/2005 10:49 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Oh how Jane works us..., penned by Candace
Are you new?

Yes, it's quite brilliant, isn't it, how JA deliberately downplays Anne - just as her family does - good point, Margaret!

Anne doesn't even speak until Ch. 3 and then, it is in defense of the Navy. hmmmm...

Here Anne spoke --

"The navy, I think, who have done so much for us, have at least an equal claim with any other set of men, for all the comforts and all the privileges which any home can give. Sailors work hard enough for their comforts, we must all allow."

But you're right, Candace - that last sentence in the chapter -
"a few months more, and , perhaps, may be walking here." - is just heartbreaking, isn't it? And so tantalizing! Who is "he"? You must turn the page to find out! She's a cagey one, that Jane. ;-)
