For some reason, the line that Sir Walter objects to the idea of my shrubberies being always approachable just gives me the giggles.

I simply cannot imagine what his objection is. Might someone pluck a leaf? Might the bushes wilt at the breath of some ungentlemanly curate, or low-born naval officer? --But it hardly matters. The image-- and the man, are just silly.
