repaying Darcy   Written by Bridget D (5/23/2010 7:42 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, the omniscient narrator thinks otherwise, penned by Karen G
Are you new?

Yes he might have thoguht that at first, but had the "good luck" of comedy not happened, ie had it really been Mr G rather htan the rich Mr D who had paid for L's marriage, I think that Mr Bennet woudl have started to repay him but might well have found himself looking at ways of getting out of it, as time wnet on. I doubt if he could have paid him all at once...

Austen IMO shows Mr B up in saying when he discovers that it is Darcy who has paid, that he will "offer to repay Darcy, but D will storm and refuse" and he, Mr Bennet will problaby sag with relief and be glad to let the matter drop....
