Are you new?

Having searched through the novel for evidence, I came to the conclusion that what the Elizabeth of the *novel* is holding out for is respect and liking that can *grow* into love, not a grand passion that sweeps all before it. I definitely agree that *if* Col. Fitzwilliam had asked her, she would at least have seriously considered his proposal.
