amidst [her] concern for the defects of [her] nearest relations   Written by Stephanie (5/20/2010 12:25 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, One thing I think is almost forgotten, penned by Karen G
Are you new?

(Darcy is not related to Mr. Hurst until he marries Elizabeth and her sister Jane marries Hurst's brother-in-law, Bingley.)

I think that Darcy has plenty of relations for whom he does not blush (if he does blush - can his colour rising in anger be properly called a 'blush'?), and Elizabeth had one that Darcy had known before meeting her aunt and uncle at Pemberley.

So, six Bennet family members have disregarded societal restraints during Darcy's stay at Netherfield. At Rosings Park, we meet the ladies, but also Colonel Fitzwilliam. Elizabeth is still down 1-6 (2-6 if you count Charlotte as a sensible relation!) to Darcy's tally of 1-2! And Darcy can be consoled knowing his parents were very well-thought-of, and that his sister is sweet, accomplished, and intelligent, even if Elizabeth does not know that yet.
