I digress. To me this quote was proof that Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth are close in temperment, in as much that they are both driven to seek out the truth beneath rumours and gossip. Each had their own little discoveries before coming together in understanding; Elizabeth needed to know Darcy's involvement with Lydia's mess, and Darcy to know that Elizabeth may have changed her mind.
