Remember, this is the first time the Bennets have even suspected that Lydia might be seriously interested in anyone, and elopements really were disapproved of at the time. Also, before it happened I'm sure Mrs. Bennet hoped that when Lydia eventually married, she'd choose a man who would have enough money to support both of them properly.

The second time, she's overjoyed because an elopement was still infinitely better than not getting married at all, no matter what kind of man Wickham might be!
