I totally understand...   Written by Connie (5/18/2010 3:40 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Well...., penned by BarbaraB
Are you new?

why you are in a hurry now. Me too! I have too many ides that have come up in the course of the GR, and I already had a focus that consumes lots of time.

Seems like you've been reading pretty heady stuff. I will have to get the book.

I like the idea that so many of the contrasts in the book might come together into one theme. I just don't understand the historical background enough to know if JA was agreeing with tradition, or, as she so often does, bunking it. I think NA and MP invert what the reader expects, so I would not be too surprised to find something similar in P&P.

I understand now what the author meant by JAne erring on the side of art, but I disagree with his conclusions. There was nothing artful in her outlook. Lizzy said as much early on when she said that many people pretend to be candid, but Jane alone was sincere. Jane was not restraining her feelings. It hurt her to think she could be wrong.
