Are you new?

(Actually, I liked a lot of your observations.) But observing of Mr. Gardiner, "He apparently does not like subterfuge," made me realize that Mr. G, at least as much as Mr. Darcy, abhors disguise of any sort. That may be one of the reasons they respect one another so.
