in consequence of the missive, "The good natured gossiping Lucases", penned by Anne-Marie
Mr. Bennet says of Mr. Collin's letter: He begins with congratulations on the approaching nuptials of my eldest daughter, of which, it seems he has been told by some of the good-natured, gossiping Lucases.... What relates to yourself is as follows: 'Having thus offered you the sincere congratulations of Mrs. Collins and myself on this happy event, let me now add a short hint on the subject of another; of which we have been advertised by the same authority.
We don't know if the Lucases sent their letters to both Mr. and Mrs. Collins, or if he reads the letters addressed to her. But we can be sure that that the Lucases are the source of the Lizzy/Darcy rumor.
