Desperation   Written by Tom P2 (5/12/2010 6:45 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, But didn't Wickham consider the consequences?, penned by Anne-Marie
Are you new?

Jane's concern in ch40 ("You are quite right. To have his errors made public might ruin him for ever. He is now, perhaps, sorry for what he has done, and anxious to re-establish a character. We must not make him desperate.") came to nothing, because Mr Wickham went and got himself into a desperate situation anyway.

JA also tells us in ch45 that angry people are not always wise, in reference to Miss Bingley, so I think it's not too much of a stretch to say the same about desperate people, and that Mr Wickham wasn't practicing cool-headed strategy when he brought Lydia along on his flight.
