That is an excellent point! Jane Austen does not linger on describing Meryton, or Longbourne - she is already telling us what we need to know about the inhabitants through dialogue and exposition. But Darcy, still a mystery, she starts to unfold by going into his surroundings, his taste, his background...

Another of Author Austen's talents - making ME interested in reading about scenery! *chuckles*
