...say that the locals at the Assembly were uninteresting. What the passage actually says is, "Darcy, on the contrary, had seen a collection of people ... for none of whom he had felt the smallest interest...."
It sounds like that was his contemporaneous reaction, not a retrospective description.
I, too, would be very curious to know how Darcy would have reacted if he had overheard Lizzy telling the story.
