in consequence of the missive, That situation was totallydifferent, as posted below, and, penned by AnnetteJ
is the knowledge that 'it can happen to anyone', well-supervised young ladies or not, by 'accident', by recklessness or by design. The situation may well come about for different reasons and be achieved in different ways, but ruin would be ruin just the same, in the end...if it was accomplished before help arrived, if others didn't scramble and cover it up quickly. The mighty families and the lesser families can experience the same disaster! I think the experience they share in this regard give Elizabeth and Darcy a special understanding--that of 'a sister's frailty' and it's consequences for everyone else in their circle. They both now know it can happen in almost any family. No one is exempt from the potential of having a sister 'lost' to a Wickham (anymore than it's only Darcy's sphere or Elizabeth's that harbors an overbearing female or a boorish cousin/in-law!) It seems to be one of the 'lessons' in P+P: no group, family or person had best give themselves airs about having fault-free members!
