does not make her miserable now, she will never deserve to be hap   Written by Stephanie (5/11/2010 2:07 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Was Darcy careless then of Georgiana's honor?, penned by Adrian
Are you new?

There is a difference in trying to protect your family, and missing some nuance, and not trying.

Darcy was deceived in Georgianna's caregiver, Georgianna was deceived in a childhood acquaintance's character, but neither were blind to impropriety - Georgianna even confesses to Darcy, knowing that her elopement would hurt him. Can you see Lydia repenting of eloping with Wickham under similar circumstances? Even after people who love her try repeatedly to make her see her imprudence was wicked, and put a lot of folks into social danger and to financial stresses, she sees nothing wrong with her behavior. She got a husband; huzzah!

I do not think Lydia insisted on coming with Mr. Wickham: had Wickham been wanted to simply escape, he never would have said a single word to Lydia before being gone. He turned his charm on her as his debts of honour grew pressing, and secured a willing companion for himself. Lydia was no longer throwing herself at Wickham when they left for Brighton; he must have reintroduced the flirtations on HIS side, to get hers returned.
