jane and Elizabeth have turned out as well as they did, considering the dysfunction of their parents. It has been said that a house divided cannot stand and this household is split right down the middle. Mr. Bennet made the fatal mistake of just not "being there." Physical and emotional presence in the lives of children is paramount to their success as adults and Mr. Bennet is unfortunately more in love with his library than his family.
