I'm just unimpressed. That passage says to me that neither Collins nor LC have any interest in the real relief of the poor except as excuses for interference & intrusion & to preach to them to just shut up about it.

I agree, though, that we don't hear about Lizzy, Jane or anyone else's charitable ventures not because they didn't exist but because they weren't within the scope of the story. With Mr. Collins, we are made aware of his tedious passions for glazing, mantle pieces, his garden, LC's coaches yadda, yadda...if he had some scorching passion for the poor in his parish I think he'd at least mention it.
