In using the word "endured" I'm referring to the ill feelings Elizabeth has had for Mr. Darcy as well as the reputation he had left behind in Longbourn and Meryton because of the sharp comments he had made at the Meryton Assembly, Lucas Lodge, and Netherfield Park ball as well as his reserved countenance.

I'm equating the "being proud" characteristic with a form of shyness. I also was agreeing with Anne-Marie's comment of shyness being perhaps a family trait. In my definition of shyness as well as enjoying a bit of wordplay with the "painfully" shy description, I was making a distinction that shyness can take different shapes.
