exhibit more fatherly feeling and sense of responsibility toward this girl? He constantly dismisses Lydia and the two younger girls as being silly and therefore not worthy of his attention. Is his love for his children only determined by their silliness or lack of silliness? The "worthy" girls are Lizzy and Jane, and the "unworthy" are the rest of the lot? A rather chilling portrait, isn't it?
