Lydia "treats" her sisters to lunch   Written by Anne-Marie (5/4/2010 5:43 p.m.)
Are you new?

When Jane and Lizzy and Maria arrive at the inn, they find Kitty and Lydia have ordered food, and Lydia says "we mean to treat you all," but the others have to "lend" them the money because they spent theirs shopping! It's lucky for Lydia that her elder sisters have enough spending money left to buy lunch for 5 people after being away from home for so long. And I love the fact that JA throws in, almost as an afterthought, that the carriage is ordered "as soon as all had ate, and the elder ones paid." I'm sure Jane and Lizzy never got a cent of that money back, either.
