With all the lead-in signs that Darcy misinterpreted:   Written by Adrian (5/4/2010 11:18 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, When did Darcy decide to propose?, penned by Line
Are you new?

...the advice to practice (suggesting in Darcy's mind that he and Lizzy are of similar temperments), revealing where she took her walks (which Darcy interpreted as a suggestion to join her), and the possibility that Darcy read these as meaning that Lizzy wanted and may have expected him to propose, I wonder if Darcy also misinterpreted her staying at Hunsford "with a headache" as an signal (as is the custom of elegant females--LOL) that--knowing he was planning to leave Rosings with Col. Fitzwilliam the next day--she had planned to be alone and give him the opportunity.

When taken all together like this, it appears JA has constructed a veritable, if subtle, comedy of errors to lure Darcy to his "doom."
