And did you notice the only point of difference that was easily checked by records between Wickham's account and Darcy's? Darcy says that Wickham's father outlived the elder Mr. Darcy, but Wickham says that the elder Mr. Darcy gave a deathbed promise to the elder Mr. Wickham.
