Twice recently Charlotte has been accused of...   Written by Adrian (5/3/2010 12:32 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Deceit: Charlotte vs Darcy, penned by Connie

..."toadying" or being an assistant toad. I have to disagree. I do not recall reading that Charlotte enthusiastically joined Mr. Collins in flattering Lady Catherine--not in the way Caroline constantly positioned herself as Darcy's faithful assistant.

True, Charlotte accompanies Mr. Collins to visit Lady Catherine; but do we know she joined him in toadying? She may very well have been there to mitigate, whenever possible, her husband's penchant to make himself look silly (as she did when insisting on introducing her father, sister, and friend Lizzy to Lady Catherine on their first arrival at Rosings).

People will think of Charlotte as they will, but I do not see textual evidence of toadying. Still, I admit I might have missed something.
