Strange, I never read that as Mr. Collins showing 'unforgiving animosity': I read it as his wanting Elizabeth to repent her earlier bad opinion of him. That in turn, may imply that he still holds HER opinion in some esteem, but whatever the case, I did not think he treated Elizabeth with any antoganism.

Your points about future unhappiness are all possible. Let us hope for better things for Charlotte, no matter how slim we thing the chance!
