Are you new?

I dont think that Austen wasted much time on her minor characters Like Anne DB, and I dont think that she saw either Anne (or for exampele Mary Bennet) as particularly "sympathetic underneath"... Anne doesn't say a single word in the novel, and Lady C's boasts about her are so foolish that we get a distinct picture IMO of a girl who hardly has a word to say for herself, and has no accomplishments... She may not be quite as arrogant as her mother, but I think that we're meant to agree with Elizabetht's remark that she's very rude to keep Charlotte standing out in the cold wind....
